RT @adbrandt: Tebow had 6.2M salary advance in 2011, 5M left on advance, Broncos want money back from NYJ as per assignment of contract.

More craziness filed to ESPN: Jaguars are back in the mix, seeing if they now can pull off a trade with Denver for Tim Tebow.

Gah … stay tuned. This JohnsonJohnson brand BAND-AID needs to get ripped off one way or another …

Whats the Jaguars Blog? We need to start Tebowmania there!
-
Ben Nevis says:
Odovacer—
It looks as though Denver is putting up a roadblock to the trade with this craziness about getting $5 mil from the Jets for Tebow. Which the FO is not crazy enough to do. Which is also why, as Schefter puts it, the “Jaguars are back in the mix, seeing if they now can pull off a trade with Denver for Tim Tebow.”
God works in mysterious ways.
-
Ben Nevis says:
It’s also highly unlikely that the FO is going to fork over $5 mil for Tebow, especially with the limited cap space we have this year.
So unless the Broncos back off their demand for the $5 mil, I’d say this Tebow trade (to the Jets, anyway) is dead in the water.

Odovacer says:
Ben-
I went on a quest to find these Jag blogs, and every single one I found made me laugh. They all have a patten to there posts.
5 hours ago: I hope the Jets get Tebow
2 hours ago: Yayyyyyyyyyy! Jets got Tebow!
30 mins ago: Crap, the demon that is Tebow is not slain yet.
I found it funny at least.
Here is a link to the Jaggernaut (I thought it was catchy). Although they were all basically these topics:
-
Ben Nevis says:
Odovacer—
Thanks for the link. When I followed it, I found a couple of interesting and potentially important re-posts of tweets by Schefter:
_____________________________________________Adam Schefter:
“The same money issues in Tim Tebow’s contract [the $5 mil Denver wants for him] caused complications for Jacksonville trying to complete trade. Now Jets facing them.”
“If the Tebow trade to Jets falls apart, St. Louis could wind up getting back into play. Sides sorting through details.”
________________________________________So it would appear that the Jags are out of the hunt for Tebow, and for the same reason that will probably derail the Jets’ trade for Tebow.
And so Tebow to the Rams?
-
Ben Nevis says:
This latest tweet from Schefter, though, seems to contradict the earlier tweets suggesting the Jags were out of the hunt for Tebow, and the Rams might be in the hunt:
___________
Adam Schefter:
“Tim Tebow trade now is expected to come down to either Jaguars or Jets. Jaguars making play to get the player they failed to land earlier.”
___________-
Ben Nevis says:
Odovacer—
You’re right about the Jags fans not wanting Tebow, either. The guy who writes the blog at the site you linked to had this to say when he thought Timmy was gonna be a Jet:
“In all of my years as a Jaguars fan, I haven’t ever been as happy ecstatic about the Jaguars not getting a player than I am right now.”
He crossed out “happy” to write “ecstatic.” That’s how I’ll feel if the Jets dodge this bullet, and Tebow goes to any other team in the league but us.
-
Ben Nevis says:
Odavacer—
Here’s an excerpt from a Jacksonville newspaper, quoting Tebow’s brother, Robby, on the breakdown of the trade with the Jets:
_________________“I think the Jags are back in play,” he [Tebow's brother, Robby] said. “It’s almost back to square one.” . . .
“We thought it was done, signed, sealed and delivered,” Robby Tebow said. “Apparently they [the Jets] didn’t read the fine print.”

Could the jets turn around and make the trade with Jacksonville? They would move up 6 spots in both the 4th and 6th…..seems like a long way to go to get there, but that would work for me….

They’d still get stuck for the $$, that’s the issue in the first place.

Also supposedly the Broncos are claiming the Jets can’t go back on the deal now even though it was never filed with the NFL office. But I wonder if the lack of complication in trading him to the Jags instead would make them forget this?
-
a57se says:
Screw what the Broncos think, a trade isn’t a trade until the paperwork is approved.
-
Laverneous COLEs says:
exactly. this is like middle school all over again. Its not a trade until that baseball card is in my hand.
-
a57se says:
Plus the Jets would argue the Broncos deceived them by not bringing the contract situation to light…..FUGG the BRONCETTES
-
Lam Jones says:
deceitful jerks expect Tanny to actually READ the contract!
Not our best day as a franchise, no matter how the deal turns out. But yes, FUGG the BRONCETTES

I dont know why Jets Fans wouldnt want this guy on our team. he is a proven leader, winner, and will help the Jets offensively, not hurt it. Wishing him to go tot eh Jaguars is wishing the Jets offense to be worse than it currently is.
-
Disgusted Jet Fan says:
“Leadership” is irrelevant if you’re not a starter. And if Tebow is a starter, the Jets will be irrelevant.
-
Pete B. says:
I disagree, you can be a leader and lead by example, but working your tail off everyday to get better, and thats what this kid does. I dont think this trade is bad for the jets, I think it will help this divided / offensively – challenged team.
-
Disgusted Jet Fan says:
Name one consensus leader in the NFL who is not a starter.
-
Pete B. says:
We only hear about the ones who start obviously (the captains), but I am sure there are guys in this league who are not starters, but work their butt off and have the respect of others in the locker room and lead by example. Maybe one i can think of unfortunately is Danny Woodhead.
-
BubbyBrister/ShovelPass says:
Danny Woodhead?
-
Lam Jones says:
There is the rare Bill Bates or Steve Tasker on specials, they set great examples without starting
-
-
-
a57se says:
I agree with PETE about leadership! Amazing!
I just don’t want Tebow because even with all his leadership, hard work etc. he STILL SUCKS AT THROWING THE DAMN FOOTBALL!.He reminds me of a lot of golfers I see at the driving range spending 2 hours practicing the same crappy swing over and over.
-
Pete B. says:
ha, that is amazing A57e. I dont want Tebow to be a QB, i want him to be a Gadget player for us. Kind of like how teh Pats used Aaron Hernandez towards the end of the year
-
BubbyBrister/ShovelPass says:

Patrick from the Bronx says:
U for real ? He won games with a def. that played great. This is not college, you aren’t ranked, you play pro teams every week and play the playoffs to win a Championship.. Your not going to win games passing 5-20 130 yrds..
-
Revis Island Airlines says:
Proven winner? He lost the last three games of the regular season last year and backed into the playoffs. He required small miracles and fantastic kicking in order to achieve half of his victories. You can also shelve the college winner BS too, Matt Lienart was awesome in college too, hows that working out? There are plenty of other college winners that don’t translate into NFL winners.
In the NFL, Sanchez is the proven winner (when comparing the two), both in the regular season and playoffs. Before last season he showed (just as Tebow) that he could play well with the game on the line. They have both also shown that they cannot. So please, cross that “winner” off of your list.
I’ll agree he can help the offense, if certain measures are taken to define his role as an HB (or TE if he can actually block or catch). But with that said it was still a risk because he has not proven he can do any of that.

-
Revis Island Airlines says:
No one cares about his HS and college days. There were plenty of great NCAA players that aren’t winners here.

Badger says:
Anyone know if the 5m counts against the salary cap?
-
Manish’s Anonymous Source says:
I don’t think bonus money counts against the cap. Whenever Tanny creates cap money in Free Agency, he often does it by turning salary into bonus money. And it’s already been paid out.
-
Lam Jones says:
Since the money was advanced against salary it is essentially that the Broncos guaranteed (and already paid) 5mm of the remaining salary (to be earned over the next 2 years). I dk why the Jets didn’t understand this ahead of time, but it does make a difference (and will count against the cap if TT is released)
-

As a bonus the cap hit would be spread over the remaining contract years. It eases the burden but will still count against the cap unfortunately.

If the 5 Mil does not go against the cap then I’m shocked they won’t pull the trigger. Tebow is easily worth 20MM.
It will be the best thing for the NY Media to fight about also.

but it isn’t the end of the world. lol.
-
mucky moose says:
I agree JR I’m still a fan. It sounds like the reefer is burning again though. Evertyhing is cool.
-
Johnny Reefer says:
lol..yeah, i do have that advantage lol, sober i’d prolly be pulling my hair out too.
-
Brendan says:
Hah, you noticed that too?
Reef hasn’t gone all-caps in a while.
-
Johnny Reefer says:
HUH?
REEFER? WHAT IS THAT? I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT.
-
-
-
-
-
Eddie D says:
I applaud your enthusiasm but…DUDE
This is some DUMB ish’ bra…
Just keep building the team like we did 2 years ago…
-
Johnny Reefer says:
i know, I don’t want this circus around, but if Sanchez performs well, then it would most likely work out.
I just hope he does perform well, because that will be the only way.
Tebow “could” be deadly in a wildcat formation, but no way in hell i want him as our starting QB.
-
reality jet fan says:
They cant eddie jerseys to be sold
-
-
-
Eddie D says:
This team is still full of holes and has money to spend…
Tebow is a great guy, tough kid
We need VERTICAL WEAPONS, O Line depth and PASS RUSHERS
For a team that made shrewd moves up until last year, what a fall…
Operate like a pro football team, not a traveling circus
-
reality jet fan says:
Eddie havent you read there will be nomore holes tebow will play every position
-
mucky moose says:
+1000000000000
-
Eddie D says:
Yea and I heard before games…he’ll walk on water…turn that water to wine…after that they’ll crucify him…and he’ll rise from the grave!!!
Or
He’ll christen your kid if you buy a luxury suite season package!!!

andres reyes says:
hey look at the bright side we dont have to deal with bounty situation
-
andres reyes says:
hey somehow it worked w broncos with tim going 58 min without completing a pass..
-
mucky moose says:
That is supposed to be reassuring
-
-
andres reyes says:
crazy stuff does happen..guarantee u nobody had the giants winning sb during their 4 game skid..honestly if all media loved this move then it s proabaly not

matthewm says:
I still think Teebow is a good deal, but let the Broncos eat the $5 mill. They are the ones who have the most at stake, if the Teebow billboards are still up when Peyton arrives in his camper van. As for his merits as a player, two questions: is he better value than most 4th rounders? I would say yes. Maybe not as a drop back QB, but he can play football, and it’s worth gambling a low draft pick that his intangibles will keep growing. Second question? Will he add revenue to the Jets? Second answer here is yes. It’s New York, and he sells jerseys. Admittedly, with Rex and Teebow in MetLife, they may rope it off as an asylum, but it’s that more fun than going 7-9 with ground and pound and a porous defense?
-
mucky moose says:
I know of no 4th rounder that could be a locker room killer.
-
David Morgan says:
Vontaze Burfict? Maybe
-
-
-
Soroosh says:
Anyone know, would the $5 mil count against our salary cap?
-
mucky moose says:
It doesn’t matter.
-
-
reality jet fan says:
Hey sanchez we are sorry you had to deal with peyton thing here is an extension. So just answer the peyton questions for a few days. Hold on sanchez just when the peyton thing is done we found something new for you to deal with.No sanchez its not brees rodgers or brady its tebow. Please answer all the questions about tebow now.Ans d seriously we know what we are doing. Thanks management
-
Eddie D says:
For some reason Gatorade almost shot out of my nose!
Here’s the post script to that note-
P.S Like for serious- we know what we’re doing- seriously- we seriously know what we’re doing
-Management-Thats too funny man

reality jet fan says:

Wolf says:
Please Jesus save us from Tebow.
-
Todd, Syracuse, NY says:
Wow. Respect for Tanny just tanked. W.T.F. Apparently, we should all get limber, because any one of us might have a shot at training camp next year. Cortland, NY here I come!!!
Tebow spirals are about as tight as a Kardashian.
-
reality jet fan says:
Tood that last line brilliant
-
-
NamVetJet says:
Per T-bows brother—-deal back to square 1.
-
Badger says:
I don’t know Tebow’s brother but I like him already. Next step is to nullify the trade. That or push it through then trade him to Jax for a higher price, then we can all do the conga
-
-
cmart is the man says:
if the Jets get Tebow he’ll be a bust. If he goes to the Jags he’ll be great and Sanchez will continue to be mediocre. Life as a Jet fan.
-
mucky moose says:
Life of a Jets fan. Sanchez goes to another team and wins a Super Bowl. That is more likely than Tebow being great for the Jags.
-
-
Wolf says:
For real? Thank god.
-
andres reyes says:
its obvious jets are in it to win it
-
mucky moose says:
They are in it to sell jerseys
-
-
ThrillMurray says:
Make the deal. Sign Tebow! Please! I can’t wait to read the comments after Tebow wins us a Super Bowl and all of you eat your words.
-
Brendan says:
Tebow wouldn’t win a Super Bowl. The Jets would win a Super Bowl and Tebow would be on the roster.
-
ThrillMurray says:
I was at UF for both championships. He willed us to that 2nd one. The kid is special. I have seen it and I now believe in him. He can lead us to a championship.
-
Brendan says:
This isn’t college, this is the NFL. Linebackers are bigger than he is and you can’t only run your way to a Super Bowl anymore.
-
Eddie D says:
Dude he is one TOUGH SOB
I WILL NEVER TAKE THAT AWAY FROM HIM
But he doesn’t possess the skill set to do it OVER and OVER
He is an NFL player…but he cant put us on his back like college to a Super Bowl…no way
-
ThrillMurray says:
I disagree. I watched him do it 9 times last year, once to us!
-
Brendan says:
A- He did not put his team on his back for every win the Broncos had while he was starting.
B- He did not start for every game they won.
C- To act as if the defense wasn’t the biggest reason they made the playoffs is a joke.
D- To act as if, in a must-win game for the Broncos, Tebow didn’t have the worst start by a QB last year (and possibly ever) in Week 17 last year is also a joke. 6/22 60 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, 6 rushes for 16 yards, 1 fumble lost, no rushing TDs vs. the Chiefs.
He’s a backup QB, he’s not putting the Jets on his back.
-
ThrillMurray says:
I added a win in there. You are correct about that. Broncos won 7 reg season and 1 playoff games last year with Tebow. No he didnt carry them for every game. Yes their D was strong. He was the main catalyst behind their turnaround. Your coaches feel like he is a steal and want him. They see his value. I also see his value, having followed Tebow since his high school days. Yes, he has flaws. He is not our starting QB at the moment. He will cause Sanchez to practice much harder and actually grow instead of posing for GQ and banging 17 year olds. We are not committing to Tebow long term in terms off draft picks or any real $.

mucky moose says:

mucky moose says:
That whatever was for Thrill Murray

frustratedjetsfan says:
What a freaking mess! Maybe the Jets can say since they had a deal in principal Jax or the Cards are now offering Denver more, the Jets will agree to bow out to help move things along IF Denver gives us a 7th rounder.
What the hell, this is so insane that it’s worth a shot.
-
CWPOST1993 says:
What a circus !! It’s probably a blessing in disguise … That would suck if Denver didn’t disclose it upfront.
Someone jumped the gun on the PR front.
Denver pulling the Okey Dokey … I bet they were just using us to pump up Tebow value.
Tanny got sucker’d – Rookie move.
-
Godfreed says:
I would imagine the attorney who reviewed the contract is experiencing a major migraine by now.
-
-
Jetsonly says:
If he ends up staying I’ll eat crow from saying “it ain’t happenin’, but there are ways he could be used maybe productively other than a backup QB or in the wildcat if he wants to play badly enough. We may have no choice but to move forward and use him. As for the circus comments; when you reach a certain age, you don’t give a damn what people are saying. To me its just more entertainment. Go Jets. I still love you.
-
Eddie D says:
Whats really troubling me is that
A) Has Tannebaum and Rex really fallen off this hard??? We used to have a plan and build the team with a vision in mind…we ALMOST achieve total victory and we go nuts like a fat kid in a twinkie factory???
or
B) Is our owner that out of touch and SOLELY focused on selling tickets that he ALLOWS this FARCE to take place
Its just really troubling…
-
Godfreed says:
I would say Woody is a money first, quality team second, kinda owner.
I think (hope) T-bomb would prefer to use the rest of the cap to strengthen weaknesses.
-
-
Real Jet fan says:
All those hating this trade: Please don’t act like you liked it all along when Tebow shows his effectiveness
-
mike_francesser says:
What will he be effective at? 5 or 6 wildcat plays a game? Will that even be effective? We’re talking about a guy who couldn’t get his team to the endzone once at home against the Chiefs to make the playoffs.
I’m not sure I’m ready for some kind of Tebow experiment at halfback or tight end either as there is not a shred of evidence that he could handle either.
So really, what will he be effective at? Fluke 4th quarters? Chucking the ball into the ground?
I don’t see Tebow as any help to this offense. The only thing Tebow would do for the Jets is make them money and get them attention.
-
mike_francesser says:
And none of that takes into account the resulting negatives it will cause Sanchez.
-
-
-
ThrillMurray says:
Tebow looked pretty effective in the 4th quarter when he beat us last season. I say we could use him. We just NEED to draft efficiently this season if he comes here and we lose those picks.
-
Real Jet fan says:
All these fans who are freaking out over this is ridiculous. He adds a whole new dimension to our offense and gives teams just another thing to prepare for when going against the Jets
-
Real Jet fan says:
Also, it seems like many Jet fans are getting this delusional idea that Tebow would be starter if the Jets signed him…. umm, no. He’ll just run 5-9 effective plays a game. His YPC and wins don’t lie.
-
mike_francesser says:
And you think the whole league isn’t going to school on him this offseason. Gimmicks don’t work in the NFL.
-
-
Real Jet fan says:
Oh? You never saw the wildcat in Miami? News flash, MARK SANCHEZ IS OUT STARTER NO MATTER WHAT. It’s not like we’re going to see Tebow’s option all game long.
-
mike_francesser says:
How long was the wildcat successful in Miami? 3/4 of a season? Mark Sanchez hates the wildcat plays.
-
-
Real Jet fan says:
It’ll work perfectly when it’s at a rarity and teams would have to prepare for that, along with many other things before facing the Jets
-
ThrillMurray says:
Think of how effective our goal line offense becomes with Tebow. He cannot be denied when it comes to less than 4 yards.
-
mike_francesser says:
Red zone offense was not a problem last season.
-
-
Real Jet fan says:
It was pretty successful when Brad Smith was running it here and what does Mark Sanchez liking and disliking have anything to do with anything? Like that guy said, having a QB like Tebow is a better goal line threat than Plax.
-
Kevino says:
I apologize in advance if this has already been asked, but why is this a big deal? Is it because the money was advanced that it all counts on this years cap? If that’s not the case, I don’t see the big deal. They have to pay him one way or the other. If they didn’t plan on keeping him here the whole time, then it doesn’t make sense to waste the draft picks to acquire him.
-
Real Jet fan says:
Oh, did I miss something? Did we retain Plax?
-
Yooooooooo says:
Tanny and Rex should be put on notice! How they don’t read a contract before they agree to deal is beside me. They both suck at drafting so losing two picks scare me. We have not had one descent draft since the Rex/Tanny era. I hate being the joke of the NFL!
-
Real Jet fan says:
Tanny sucks at drafting? Revis? Harris? Mangold? Sanchez? Ferguson? Keller? I see a pattern here.
-
Real Jet fan says:
And if we’re “jokes,” having delusional fans who react to a great move like this would be one of the reasons why…
