The Jets are SOooooooooo In Love with Trent Richardson

avatar

Greetings from New York! By now I’m sure everyone’s seen this and panci might or might not have set in …

At NFL event today, Trent Richardson said #Jets called him Sunday to verify correct contact info just in case they trade up for him. Hmm.about 2 hours ago via Twitter for iPhoneReplyRetweetFavorite

All is well, remain calm!!!

Personally, I just think this is a just a logistical due diligence thing.  For all we know the Jets might have called every projected first rounder to validate this information.  Yes, the Jets called Trent Richardon this weekend.  Yes they did validate his information. Yes, they did mention potentially trading up.  So what it boils down to is ……….

OMG!  THE JETS ARE SOOOOOOO TRADING FOR TRENT RICHARDSON!!!1!111!!!!!1!!!1!!!!1!!

I’ll believe it when I see it. Who will be their trading partner? Cleveland again? Is there any way Tebow can be part of the trade?

How about Tebow, E. Smith and pick 16 for Cleveland’s 4th overall pick?

    • avatarRJ says:

Unfortunately, Mangina isn’t there any longer to make a trade like that.

    • avatarmucky moose says:

      Is Cleveland that dumb?

    • avatarMarcus says:

Haha… Yes please. Only, take Kalil.

  3. avatar Jets babyyy says:

I am just curious can we call this a smoke screen or are they really going to pull the trigger?

I do like T Rich since that time when Mark Ingram got hurt and he took over his spot for a couple games he was tearing it up.

I hope he is more like an Adrian Peterson and not like a Reggie Bush (expectation wise on the field).

Well good luck in what ever the Jets do I will still be a fan no matter what.

    LETS GO JETS!!!!

  4. avatarjet4lif says:

If the Jets trade up, then it better be if Mark Barron is still available with the 13th pick that Cardinals have. The Eagles and the cowboys absolutely love this guy.
    Need+BPA

  5. avatarmucky moose says:

There is no way the Jets should move up to get T-Rich although he may be the best football player in the draft.

  6. avatarendzoneview says:

If the Jets think he’s the best football player in the draft, by all means they should move up and get T-Rich

    • avatarmucky moose says:

It depends what it costs. The Jets would have to move up into the top 10, possibly the top 5. That would cost a team like the Jets too much. I think you should only make a move like that if you think that one player is all you need to make it to the next level. The Jets need more than one player.
I would love T-Rich as a Jet. I think he is the best player in the draft.

I dunno how I feel about this… kinda nervous stomach just reading it

    i hate cimini

  9. avatarkc. says:

I said a LONG time ago that the Jets needed to draft this kid. If we are going to be GROUND and POUND,how are you/we going to do that with Shonn Greene,Joe Mcknight,Bilal Powell? And PLEASE dont say Tebow. Yes,he WILL at times run the ball for us but IS NOT a running back. Of course there could be a running back later in the draft but this kid is OBVIOUSLY pretty special.

    • avatarMarcus says:

Who cares? Running backs are a dime a dozen. You don’t draft an often-injured, short-term-career, easily-attainable-in-later-rounds player in the first round, let alone the top 5.

      • avatarSuper T says:

Especially when your O’line already is in need of help.

      • avatara57se says:

QB’s are a dime a dozen also, why not just wait for the sixth round on them…eventually you may find another Tom Brady.

        • avatarMarcus says:

Because having a good RB doesn’t correlate to /winning/… And having a good QB /does/.

      • avatarTal says:

And it costs you the entire draft possibly some of next year’s as well…

  10. avatarZenlaw says:

I think it depends upon the price. I would rather see the Jets add OL, S, and DE, but if the brass are that high on T-Rich, let’s just hope it doesn’t blow the entire draft.

  11. avatarCMart says:

If the Jets move up I’d much rather go after a pass rusher.

    • avatarmucky moose says:

I want a pass rusher but wait and see what comes to you at 16. There is no pass rusher that is as good as T-Rich.

  12. avatara57se says:

If the price is right, do it……

  13. avatarRevis Christ says:

Ehhh dont like it, unless it involves unloading tebow smith hunter and a 3rd round pick lol

  14. avatarkc. says:

goes without saying it would take a little pressure off Sanchez having him back there.

  15. avatar pound4pound says:

Smells fishy. If the Jets were really loving T-Rich, wouldn’t they have told him on he phone to keep this to himself and not tell anybody, so NYJ preserves some leverage for trading up?

    • avatarMarcus says:

      +1

At least, I certainly hope so.

  16. avatarfattyboomboom says:

I only see this happening if he starts to slide, and i just cant c that happening

  17. avatarJon Jet says:

The only way a T. Richardson is on the Jets next season is if Tony comes out of retirement at the age of 40!

  18. avatarkc. says:

I PERSONALLY believe the Jets are going to trade UP w/Jacksonville.

  19. avatarSanchezio* (*pending change) says:

Richardson/Greene would give us the best tandem since Martin/Jordan so I really wouldn’t complain… Would be a little disheartening if it means another year of passing on top pass-rushing talent though.

    • avatara57se says:

If we manage to hang onto our 2nd round pick we might get Curry or Irvin…..if we keep our third round pick then Wilber or Fugger wouldn’t be terrible for OLB. A late round possibility is Adrian Hamilton from Prairie View where he had 20.5 sacks. Here is a detailed scouting report on him:

      http://nfldraftmonsters.com/scouting/scouting-report-adrian-hamilton/

      • avatarTal says:

If you want trich you need to trade up at least to no. 5 meaning no no. 2 and 3 picks and basically a one man draft.

  20. avatarMike Battle says:

Hmmm, TRich ,Greene and McKnight RB, sign Braylon with Holmes and Kerly, pick up a rusher in the 2/3 round whichever is left, FA a safety or two, draft in 5/6 acb or twoand some LB speccial team fodder. I could live with that.

    • avatarjerk says:

I could live with it to if the pass rusher we get is able to get to the qb I don’t care as long as hes effective. We can take.all the packers garbage if healthy sign collins n Clifton they can step right in n start.

    • avatarTimG says:

      What about RT?

  21. avatarBoston University JET says:

I’m not going to say this definitely doesn’t mean anything, but like Bassett said, for all we know they hit up Andrew Luck to “verify correct contact info” as well.

The more I think about it though I would be really surprised to learn that there isn’t like some generic master contact information sheet distributed to all clubs for the draft. It’s not like that would be an advantage. It would just make logistical sense. Did Trent Richardson spend a collective 30-something minutes on his phone with every NFL team verifying contact information? Does each team hire a couple goons to spend a couple days verifying every possible available player’s contact information… the day before the draft? The whole thing smells a little fishy (maybe in a good way), or perhaps Cimini is just fishing (almost definitely)… or both.

  22. avatarmarsh says:

According to the NFL Draft Value chart, for the Jets to move from 16 (value 1000) to 4 (value 1800), they would have to give up their 1st, 2nd (47th pick/Value 430), 3rd (77th pick/Value 205), 5th (154th pick/Value 30), and 6th (187th pick/Value 17)rounders just to get in the ballpark. After Richardson, their next selection would be #202. Not too likely.

  23. avatarjerk says:

Haha u got jokes. I agree its going to be very difficult to get this guy. I would like him but long shot. I don’t like the baron pick in the first round people keep saying we should do. I don’t think unless a player is ed reed or polamalu a safety is going to be that big of a play maker, yes they can be good and make a lot of plays but I think we can find one somewhere else but pass rushers are the moat valueable position defense and we have to draft one if we can get after the qb this yr with whoever we draft and a better Maybin n Mo -Wilk we will be dominant. We can always sign Collins if hes healthy.

  24. avatarramble914 says:

    Brian Bassett,

Any plans for a TJB meet up for the draft?

  25. avatarSeth (Rochester, NY) says:

Bassett, Bent or anyone else. What will it cost in picks to move from 16 to 4 or 3? I know there is a chart on it. I don’t want to Ricky Williams the draft, but I do think Trent Richardson will make this team better. All the players I want will be gone by 16 such as Barron, Coples, Floyd, DeCatro and Ingram. I am not a fan of Poe or Upshaw. I also like Mercilus if they trade down a few.

    • avatarMarcus says:

      1(16) + 2(47) + 3(77) to get *near* 4.

And that’s why this would be an indescribably stupid move.

      • avatarSeth (Rochester, NY) says:

Thanks Marcus. We have too many needs to give up our second and third. Since we do not have a 4th, we will have to count on on picks in later rounds to play right away. We need a OT, a Pass Rusher and FS among others.

  26. avatarneauone says:

Well, lets see, their soooooooo, in love with T.Rich, M.Ingram, Q.Coples, Upshaw. I mean who are they not in love with. So much for the soooooo in love factor. Maybe they just want one of the top tier teams to move up and grab him so they can be assured of getting the DE/LB they want. Naaaaah, that doesn’t make any sense, after all the most pressing need is a pass rush and RT. Lets go for the sexy pick, yeah, yeah, yeah!

  27. avatarjerk says:

I don’t get the concept of drafting Poe anyways we just signed Pouha and were developing Ellis we need to draft playmakers at positions we don’t have them at already n the most were in need of is pass rusher and the reason we do.pass rusher is becuz its the hardest to.come by else where we can always sign fs or draft one late we can always sign a rt or draft one in the 2nd third or later n even receiever we can resign bray for cheap n get a lot out of him or get sum 1 later in he draft. Good pass rushers are hard to come by and are expensive in fa.

    • avatarmucky moose says:

      jerk’
you don’t get it. If you want to build a Super Bowl team you draft BPA. You don’t evaluate players by your needs. That is what teams like the Bills, Browns, Bengals and Raiders do. Don’t reach for players because of needs.

      • avatarjuunit says:

THREE nose tackles though? Seems awfully ridiculous to me.

  28. avatara57se says:

Apparently they are more in looooooooooooooove with Coples as he is quoted as saying that he speaks with a Jets scout almost every day. That has to trump checking on someones’ contact info…..

  29. avatarjerk says:

Ive wanted Ingram the last few months but I’m sort leaning towards wanting them to draft Coples. I don’t know if people r picking ingrams game apart to scare people off but everyone ripping apart his size and arm size is starting to make me think. I would be happy with either but eveyones all over Ingram.

  30. avatarPhil NYC says:

Trich would be an awesome pick, the post above detailing what we have to give up for the pick didn’t take in consideration that we could give a pick from next year

    • avatarjuunit says:

Right. Mortgaging the future doesn’t really matter. All that matters is RIGHT NOW. We’ll worry about not having a first rounder while still being in need of a pass rusher when we get to that bridge. Brilliant.

  31. avatarjerk says:

I’m not saying reach out but we need to get to the qb n drafting certain players becuz there bpa n they don’t fit our scheme or if they don’t fit what were trying to do why would u draft him

  32. avatarjuunit says:

What did it just cost the Redskins to move up into the second overall spot?

    The defense rests.

  33. avatarjerk says:

N that’s not true at all man the raiders under al davis draft bigger faster stronger every yr they never draft need. N that’s not necessarily right about a lot of teams becuz the pats and teams like he steelers to me draft both ways. To me drafting both ways is the correct way to draft becuz u cant always draft bpa if that was the case vikings draft t rich when they have ap for example.

  34. avatarSuper T says:

This definitely does seem like something the Jets would do…

Minnesota itching to get out of #3 spot
Jets itching to get even more press after Tebow trade

    • avatarBrendan says:

And it would have absolutely nothing that T-Rich would instantly be a top 10 RB. At all.

  35. avatarMEL31602 says:

For what it’s worth, SalPal just reported TRich is number one on Jets draft board. Now why they would release this info right before the draft is beyond me, unless it’s a smokescreen.

    • avatara57se says:

Why would T-Rich being No. 1 on the Jets draft board be a smokescreen??? Makes perfect sense to me.

      • avatarMEL31602 says:

I personally don’t think they should take him (they have bigger needs, and you can get an RB later) but even so, why would they reveal who is on their draft board at all before the draft??

        • avatarBrendan says:

Why does it matter? Teams are kind of locked in to what the compensation packages are for certain picks, so if some team tries to hold the Jets hostage they’ll just say “thanks, but no thanks” and go back to their original plan.

          • avatarMEL31602 says:

You don’t find it odd that no other teams reveal their draft board before the draft? There must be a reason for that. If other teams knew the Jets plans they could try to trade up to get ahead of them or might be willing to give up more in a trade up for TRich b/c they know Jets are also in running

            • avatarBrendan says:

“If other teams knew the Jets plans they could try to trade up to get ahead of them or might be willing to give up more in a trade up for TRich b/c they know Jets are also in running”

You might have just answered your own question, bud.

      • avatarTal says:

Exactly! I remember Rex saying “we can only hope” when was asked whether trich is on at 16. No doubt he is BPA for the Jets of all prospects in this draft. I think they made that call because he might fall outside the top 10 in different scenarios… So even if it is a long shot they are still preparing. Sounds logic to me. Does not mean they will sell the farm just to get him. Cannot see it hapening…

  36. avatarSackDance99 says:

Draft DeCastro at 16 and Shonn Greene, McKnight, Powell and Conner will seem like TRich because they’ll start out at the second-level after he, Mangold and Moore clear out the middle of the defense.

    • avatarMarcus says:

      + 10,000,000.

    • avatarSuper T says:

      +1000000000

And added bonus, we would still have 9 picks left for the rest of the team’s holes.

    • avatarBrendan says:

Have to disagree here. T-Rich is not a run-of-the-mill RB. More and more people see the value of top RB’s lessen. Mark Ingram won a Heisman with an incredible year and lasted until the Saints picked in the first round.

T-Rich is in that Chris Johnson/Adrian Peterson mold where he does make his o-line better than it actually is. He can run, catch and block (something that the team is seriously lacking right now). Behind the Jets’ line with Sparano calling the plays he’d be an absolute terror for other teams to deal with. He’s a very fast wrecking ball with the ability to break long runs.

Would I be just as happy if the Jets stayed pat, grabbed DeCastro or a pass rusher, and then picked up another RB later in the draft? Sure, I would. But I won’t be upset if the team goes out and gets the player who I think is the best in the draft (depending on price, as always).

  37. avatarMarvel says:

First… Draft Chandler Jones, a guy with weak tape, weak production, weak 40 time because he somehow flew up one guys draft board ?

Now. Trade our entire draft for a RB ?

    —–
No way Tanny and Rex are this stupid. If T-Rich slides and we drop a future 3rd.. Maybe .. But come on now.

Too much talent to go panicing/reaching/and just outrite crazy.

  38. avatarjerk says:

we don’t know what there thinking or what there gonna do really becuz every yr we have been askkng for a pass rusher or sum other position. Last year we definately were all asking for a pass rusher n he took the run stuffing d end who.may eventually be a good pass rusher n hopefully he picks it up this yr

  39. avatarJoeDog says:

“Trade up” might mean “if he falls to 10 or something.” I can’t imagine they’d trade to four for a running back.

  40. avatar R in CT says:

    In spirit of Bassett’s post:

OMG! OMG! OMG! THE JETS ARE MOVING UP TO #1 TO DRAFT LUCK AND TO #2 TO TAKE RGIII!!!!! THE VOICES IN MY HEAD TOLD ME SO!!!!

  41. avatar Lil’ O says:

Is it possible to do a combo of trading our 16 and some players to move up to get T Rich? Like Keller or Devito….Keller is one of my favorite JETS, but T Rich is a beast…thoughts?

    • avatarMarcus says:

Getting rid of Sanchez’s favorite receiver + having nobody really available to come in and take his place… I’ll pass.

    • avatarBrendan says:

Jets did it to move up for Sanchez, but that was with the Browns and whatever Mangini was smoking that day. It’s possible, but for whatever reason picks are considered more valuable to teams than actual players.
