The Yankees Encouraging Trade Deadline

The MLB trade deadline has come and gone and there were a lot of significant trades. The most significant trade was a young phenom, Juan Soto, to the San Diego Padres. That trade shocked the entire MLB world. In New York, the Yankees had an eventful trade deadline.

Yankees Aquire Andrew Benintendi

After suffering a tough loss to their cross-town rivals New York Mets, GM Brian Cashman pulled the trigger on acquiring left-handed hitter Andrew Benintendi. Benintendi could be a great hitter for the Yankees. First, he is a left-handed hitter so that always works out well with their short porch in the right field. Second, he is also more of a contact hitter that gets on base, and their lineup needs of a player like that. Lastly, Benintendi is of course an upgrade over Joey Gallo. Benintendi has some early struggles s but fans should expect him to break out soon.

Scott Effross and Lou Trivino Add Relief Pitching

The Yankees needed to add a reliever to their trade deadline shopping list after Michael King went down for the season. Scott Effross was an under-the-radar relief pitcher on the market and the Yankees found him. Effross’ primary pitch is a slider and it is a wicked one. Expect manager Aaron Boone to use Effross as a weapon, especially against right-handed hitters.

The other reliever the Yankees acquired was Lou Trivino from the Oakland Athletics. Trivino was not having his best season out of the pen as he currently has a 6.15 ERA. Hopefully pitching coach Matt Blake can change that and he can become the new Clay Holmes from last season. Fans could remember him from the 2018 wild card game at Yankee Stadium where he pitched for three scoreless innings. He’s been a good relief pitcher before and hopefully, he will regain his skills back again for the playoffs.

Frankie Montas Solidifies Starting Rotation

The Yankees needed another starter in their incomplete rotation. The Yankees acquired Frankie Montas from the Oakland Athletics. He was having a really great season with a 3.18 ERA. The Yankees also get to keep Montas through next season as well. If Montas becomes a true number two pitcher this could help push the Yankees past the ALCS in the playoffs.

Harrison Bader Gives the Yankees an Outfield Piece

Just before the trade deadline concluded the Yankees traded pitcher Jordan Montgomery to the St Louis Cardinals for outfielder Harrison Bader. Bader is a terrific outfielder that can steal a lot of hits. Acquiring Bader helps the Yankees to move Judge back into right field and Bader will patrol Center field. Trading Montgomery also shocked the team but the organization does not see him as part of the bigger picture.

Conclusion-

Overall, the Yankees had a successful trade deadline. Brian Cashman added necessary pieces that could put this team over the top. There is still a lot to determine but on paper, they did a great job this deadline.
