Is Lionel Messi On The Move?

Lionel Messi has spent the whole of his glorious career at Barcelona, however, his future at the club remains uncertain as multiple Spanish news outlets have claimed that his time at the club might be coming to an end.

The Current Situation

Lionel Messi and Barcelona have a special relationship. Messi has been the poster boy of the club ever since he broke out on the scene back in 2004. However recent tension has arisen between himself and the club regarding their success in European competitions and the club’s future. Barcelona last won the Champions League since 2015 which saw Messi and the Blaugrana defeat Juventus 3-1.

However European success has been dormant since and in that span of 5 years Barcelona’s archrival Real Madrid have taken the spotlight winning the competition 3 times in the last 5 years. The recent decline in European success has to lead Barca to fire multiple managers, most noticeably Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde. With all these changes happening so quickly, Messi has decided to rethink his future and question whether or not Barcelona is moving in the right direction.

Possible Destinations

Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain and with that, we’ve decided to take a look at the best possible locations for Messi to take his talents to. From England to Italy we’ve drawn up all of Messi’s potential destinations. So with that said let’s take a deeper dive into Messi’s possible next clubs.

Manchester City

Manchester City and Lionel Messi seem to be the perfect match. Pep Guardiola, who is Manchester City’s head coach and former manager of Barcelona, has pondered over the idea of bringing Messi to the blue side of Manchester. Messi’s style of play would fit right in at City and with an addition of Messi City’s attack can be one of the most explosive of all time. So if City has the money to spend I can definitely see Messi in a sky blue shirt next season.

Inter Milan

Inter and Messi would just make sense right? Well, it really would! Inter is known to have a great relationship with Argentinian players as they’ve had the likes of  Javier Zanetti and Juan Sebastian Veron and more ball out for the club. Messi would most likely fit in at the CAM spot behind fellow Argentine Lautaro Martinez and Belgian ace Romelu Lukaku which would make for one blistering attack. However, with doubts about Antonio Conte‘s future at the club, a move for a player like Messi looks uncertain however we can always dream.

The Parisians and Messi look something out of a dream; however, a move like this is well within the Parisians budget. Just thinking about a possible strike force of Neymar, Mbappe, and Messi is just terrifying and could possibly be one of the best attacks of all time. Paris also looks like the best destination in terms of winning a champions league as Paris have qualified for this year’s champions league final which kicks off on Sunday. A move like this would make sense for Messi but I do not see Barca selling him to a powerhouse like PSG.

Newell’s Old Boys

Well yeah, you heard that right… Newell’s Old Boys which is Messi’s boyhood club from Argentina could be in the race to sign their former academy star. However, a move like this would have to be forced by Messi himself as there is no way that Newell’s Old Boys can afford a transfer like this. Even though a move like this would be very heartwarming I still believe that Messi wants to compete on the brightest stage and he certainly can’t get that in Argentina.

My Take

Personally I feel that Lionel Messi will end up staying in Barcelona. Barca is the team that scouted Messi at a young age and it’s only fitting that he’d stay and play the rest of his career with the club that gave him so much. I can potentially see him stay for another 2-3 years and then move back home to Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina where he would hang up his boots and call it quits on a glorious career.

However, I don’t know what Messi feels in this situation and if he feels that a move is necessary he will make sure that move happens. So with that said do you agree with my claim or do you disagree and if you disagree where do you think Messi is heading?
