Tuesday sees the New York Mets and the Marlins facing off in a doubleheader starting at 5:10 PM. Before that happens, some team players are going to the injured list. Shortstop Andres Gimenez and catcher Tomas Nido are both going to the IL for undisclosed reasons. Both Nido and Gimenez have played very well when they’ve played this season. These 10 days without them are just going to be a lot tougher for the Mets. Considering that the team is playing 9 games in the next 6 days alone, it’s a huge blow not to have Nido or Gimenez as options.
The Mets have activated outfielder Juan Lagares and catcher Patrick Mazeika. The team also have activated catcher Ali Sanchez as the doubleheader’s 29th man. So yes, Juan Lagares is back with the Mets. He signed with the Padres this offseason, but then was designated for assignment and the Mets picked him up for the 60 man player pool. Lagares has been a good defensive player for a long time in a New York Mets uniform. So, it’s great that he’s an option for Luis Rojas and the rest of the team.
To wrap it up, the Gimenez and Nido are going to the 10 day IL. Assuming that one of the two of them probably tested positive for Covid-19. Lagares and Mazeika have been activated to replace them until Gimenez and Nido come back.
