Knicks: HC Tom Thibodeau Brings In 3 New Assistants

Since hired in July, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau has made three new additions to his coaching staff. After Thibodeau’s fifth assistant coach brought in, Knicks fans are expecting a big reinvention of the New York Knicks roster this season. Here are the coaches being brought to the team.

Mike Woodson

Mike Woodson was the Knicks assistant from 2011-2012, as well as head coach from 2012-2014. Consequently, the last time he coached in New York, the Knicks were in the playoffs. After being released by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2018-2019, Woodson will return to coaching this year. He is known for being able to control players egos, as well as helping them ease into life under the bright lights. Woodson led his Knicks team to New York’s best record in the last 20 years.

Andy Greer

Andy Greer has spent a significant period of his coaching career alongside Tom Thibodeau, and will understand Thibodeau’s coaching method better than any other assistant. He’s worked with Thibodeau as an assistant coach for the Knicks, Chicago Bulls, and most recently, the Minnesota Timberwolves. He knows the ins and outs of Thibodeau’s system, and could vastly improve the team’s defense.

Dice Yoshimoto

Yoshimoto has worked with Thibodeau with both the Bulls, and the Timberwolves. He has also worked as director of strategy at the University of Georgia. The recently hired assistant coach strengths include both video, and game planning, which will be beneficial if the Knicks make a run at a playoff spot this season.

The last assistant coach signings seemed to have been hired as a ploy to drive specific players to New York. However, these three were brought in by Thibodeau to have familiar faces around who understand his coaching method. This balance, along with Mike Woodson, who Knicks fans remember fondly, as a dominant coach in the NBA, is something New York has needed. Thibodeau entered New York with a weak team, and fans desperate for success, and received an unlucky draft pick. However, it seems he’s done everything right so far, and Knicks fans are excited for what he has planned next.
