Breaking: RB Kalen Ballage Trade Fails, Perine Injured

Now, it appears that the New York Jets will not be getting Dolphins running back Kalen Ballage. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Ballage has failed his physical and has an injured hamstring.

Originally, the Jets acquired Ballage from the Miami Dolphins for a conditional late-round pick. The transaction occurred on August 27.

Kalen Ballage was set to compete for a roster spot with rookie La’Mical Perine and Josh Adams.

La’Mical Perine Injury

That is not the only bad news the Jets would receive today. The training staff carted La’Mical Perine off the field with a leg injury during today’s practice at Metlife Stadium. He will receive an MRI.

This leaves the Jets with just three running backs. Frank Gore, Le’Veon Bell, and Josh Adams are the ones that remain.

The team is one injury at the position away from being completely desperate.

The Jets don’t know how long Perine will be out for. If the injury is serious, the Jets should sign another running back to hold down the depth at the position.

If the team wants to make life easy, they should re-sign Bilal Powell. He knows the Adam Gase‘s very well and still has something left in the tank. Familiarity would work best when there is two weeks left til the first game.

In 13 games, Powell rushed for 229 yards on 59 attempts, averaging 3.9 yards per carry. He’s been a consistent back in

Not to mention, Bilal Powell and La’Mical Perine are alike in their playing styles. Both are not dominant in one area. But, they are equally skilled out at individual assets of being a running back. Powell and Perine aren’t your typical lead backs. Instead, both are solid backups by being threats equally in the run and passing game. Not to mention, they both have the same running style.

Other free agent running backs include former Jet Isaiah Crowell, Devonta Freeman, Derrius Guice, Javorius Allen, and Spencer Ware.

Before possibly pursuing a free agent running back, the team has to see if La’Mical Perine’s injury is serious.
