Juventus: Out with the old, in with the new

After firing Italian head coach Maurizio Sarri, Juventus have started to completely remodel their club. It began with the hiring of highly inexperienced manager Andrea Pirlo. Since then the “Old Lady” has made clear that they plan on changing the club by releasing old players, brining in younger ones with more energy, and switching to a new style of play.

Hiring Pirlo

Just hours after sacking coach Sarri, who only lasted a year at Juventus, the club hired team legend Andrea Pirlo. Since then, Pirlo has made it clear that his priorities are replacing aging players with potential-filled young stars.

So far, the young coach has sold midfielders like Blaise Matuidi, and Miralem Pjanic. He offered up these older players for the likes of 22 year old American star Weston Mckennie, along with 23 year old Brazilian player Arthur. Each of these new midfielders brings added energy and youth to the team, and has brought excitement to fans.

Potential Juventus transfers

A certain Frenchman by the name of Houssem Aouar has been on Juventus’ radar for much time now. Aouar has reportedly decided that Juventus is his preferred club to join despite being targeted by Arsenal and Manchester City. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has spoken about the potential transfer as well. “I would like to see Aouar at Juventus in the future and I also hope that it will be his ambition.”  Italian media outlet Juventibus has also added As far as I’m concerned, I know that Aouar has already been taken by Juventus.” Some encouraging words for the fans.

Another name that that has been linked to the club is Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez. With Gonzalo Higuain set to leave Juventus this summer, the fellow South American could take his spot. Reports suggest that Juventus and Suarez have already established a deal. However, Suarez is looking for compensation for the remainder of his contract with FC Barcelona.

lastly, the “Old Lady” has their eye on Arsenal right-back, Hector Bellerin. Bellerin is a quick full back who can play well under Pirlo’s new formation. Juventus could look to sign him by offering Daniele Rugani, with an additional 10 million dollars.

Releasing players

Although Juventus holds some of the best players in the world, they are also filled with weaker players that haven’t proved themselves for the club. Amongst them are Douglas Costa, Federico Bernardeschi, Daniele Rugani, and Sami Khedira. By selling off these players, Juventus could put themselves in na position where they have money to spend on bigger star who could contribute much more to the team

Juventus tactical plan

It appears manager Pirlo would like to play a 3-5-2 formation this season. An image below shows a potential lineup for the black and white. With a very stable defense, and dynamic full backs who can cover a full side of the field, Juventus will certainly keep their reputation as one of the strongest defense sides in the world. With an energetic midfield, that has a lot of depth, Juventus’ only possible issue could be experience. Attacking-wise, the Italian Giants could have two of the best strikers in the world in Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez. With an additional partner in Paulo Dybala, who is both an excellent playmaker, and lethal at goal, you can expect many goals this season from Juventus.

Another potential formation could be a classic 4-3-3, if Juventus are not able to make much more signings this season. This lineup certainly isn’t as strong but could also be a positive change from past seasons.

The main worry with this Juventus squad is their lack in players that perform consistently. Many of these players including Paolo Dybala, Arthur, Alex Sandro and Bellerin have struggled to play well consistently in the past. If Pirlo is able to overcome this, and bring out the best in these players, an extremely dominant team may be amongst us. However, only time will tell if Juventus’ gamble this season will be worth it in the end.
