After a long fight with F.C Barcelona, Lionel Messi has agreed to stay at the club. For a few weeks now, Lionel Messi has been trying to leave the Spanish team. However, legal issues with the club have forced him to stay in Spain for at least 1 more season.
Messi has made clear in the past weeks he had no interest in staying in Spain. Regardless, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has told the player he could either stay or pay his release clause of 700 million euros. Another option for the Argentinian was to tale the club to court, however, Messi said “I would never do that to the club I love”.
A move to Manchester City may have been a possibility, but the Catalan team turned them down. According to certain media outlets, the Sky Blues offered F.C Barcelona a big deal for Messi. Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus, Eric Garcia, along with 100 million euros were the package in exchange for Messi. This deal could have certainly turned Barcelona into a more youthful club. Barca is an aging club, with most players above the age of 30, and ready to retire in the coming years.
Lionel Messi may additionally grow to regret some of his words directed at the Barcelona board now that he is staying. Even calling F.C Barcelona president Bartomeu a “disaster. Although Messi has grown to love Barcelona, there will surely be some love lost over the course of this season.
