Lorenzo Carter To Miss The Rest of The Season With Ruptured Achilles

On Sunday, The New York Giants pass-rush took a massive hit. Lorenzo Carter suffered a ruptured Achilles in the first half of the game against Dallas, ending his 2020 season.

Carter, the 2018 third-round selection, has blossomed into a key aspect of the Giants’ defense which has found success this year. Although he had only one sack entering Sunday’s game, Carter led the Giants in quarterback pressures and hits.

He will undergo surgery at the end of the week and is expected to be ready for next season. The linebacker showed he was in good spirits despite being carted off the field. He gave his teammates a thumbs up on the way into the tunnel. Here are his stats so far in his three-year career:

Lorenzo Carter

  • 103 Total Tackles
  • 9.5 Sacks
  • 49 QB Pressures
  • 23 Hurries
  • 16 QB knockdowns
  • 27 QB hits
  • 10 Pass Deflections
  • 15 Tackles For A Loss
  • 1 Forced Fumble
  • 19 of 35 Games Started

Many expected the Giants’ pass-rush to be lackluster in 2020. The Giants’ defense ranks 13th in the league with 12 sacks so far this season. Kyler Fackrell leads the team with two.

However, this is still a huge blow for Big Blue as Carter was progressing nicely. The Giants will have to rely on Kyler Fackrell, Carter Coughlin, and Markus Golden for pass-rush moving forward. At least until Oshane Ximines makes a return from injured reserve.
