This Sunday, the New York Giants will host the Washington Football Team at Metlife Stadium in hopes of finding their first win. The Giants are coming off of a Week 5 loss to The Cowboys in Arlington. Although they lost, The Giants offense had its best performance of the season. The unit hopes to carry the good play into this week, however, it won’t be easy without good blocking and no turnovers.
Sunday will undoubtedly be a colossal test for this young Giants team. Throughout this season, The Giants have faced good teams and kept games close. However, because they have lost all of their games they have fallen into a category of five or six ”bottom of the barrel” teams.
This Sunday will be a good opportunity for Big Blue to earn a win and gain confidence, as they face The Washington Football Team. Nonetheless, should The Giants lose, there may be some big changes coming quickly in New York.
It wouldn’t be blasphemous to say that GM Dave Gettleman has done both good and bad things during his current tenure in New York. In the grand scheme of things though, his job may be in jeopardy. If The Giants can’t get a win on Sunday, it will almost certainly prove that Dave Gettleman has not changed much.
He came in when the team was in shambles and they’re still there. A loss on Sunday will prove that it doesn’t seem to be getting any better either. Gettleman could be gone as soon as next week in the event of a loss.
As illogical as it may seem for the Giants to look at new Quarterbacks, it could potentially be the case for “Danny Dimes”. In other years, it wouldn’t even be a consideration. A second-year QB in a new system with a bad offensive line, It’s crazy to say we’ve seen enough to judge.
However, this year isn’t normal. This is the year of Trevor Lawrence. The most highly anticipated QB prospect since Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck. The true Freshman who led his team to a National Championship victory. If Daniel Jones turns the ball over and the Giants go 0-6, The Tank For Trevor noise will likely go up more than a few notches.
Keys to A Sunday Victory
The Giants are the favored team this week with a spread of -3.5. Big Blue certainly has the better roster but with good coaching, The Football Team can play its strengths against The Giant’s weaknesses. The Giants need to find a way to slow down Washington’s fierce defensive front. If The Giants can’t pass-protect and establish a run-game early, things will go downhill fast. They also need to limit turnovers, something that begins and ends with Daniel Jones. Part of the reason The Giants are winless is because of turnovers, especially in big moments. In a must-win game, Big Blue must protect the pass and not turn the ball over, while keeping up their defensive play to win.
