The US Men’s National team has been nothing short of awful over the last few years. However, the future looks bright, with many young Americans who have begun to create a name for themselves in Europe. Multiple players including Giovanni Reyna, Christian Pulisic, or Weston McKennie will be key players for the future of the USA. Here, however, we’ll be looking at the five players who still haven’t proved themselves as future stars.
USA #5. Josh Sargent, Werder Bremen
At only 20 years of age, Josh Sargent is yet to establish himself as a big name in Europe but could be on his way very soon. With five goals in 12 appearances for the United States, Sargent has already shown signs of class. The striker has been gaining experience in Germany with 44 games played in his first two years. Sargent still has a lot to prove but it surely one to look out for in the future.
USA #4. Timothy Weah, Lille
Timothy Weah, son of former Ballon d’Or winner, George Weah is a wildcard. Although only 20 years old, Weah has struggled with injury problems that have kept him off the field for long periods of time. However, there have been glimpses of huge promise from the New York-born striker. American soccer fans will be hoping he can dominate at Lille in order to cement the U.S attacking options
USA #3. Chris Richards, Bayern Munich
Center back Chris Richards will surely be a key defender for the U.S.A in the future. The 20-year-old is learning under world-class defenders including Jerome Boateng, Nick Sule, and David Alaba. Fans will hope that Richards is able to emulate a similar playing style to what he is being taught in Germany. Richards is still struggling to find playing time under the European Champions, and a potential loan to somewhere else in Europe could be on the cards for him.
USA #2. Sergiño Dest, FC Barcelona
Despite being signed by Barcelona just weeks ago, Dest has had a little difficulty getting used to the club. The right-back joined Barca for around 2o million dollars and has been in hot form despite losing multiple games already. Dest will be a defender the US will look to in the future and will be almost guaranteed a starting position for many years to come.
USA #1. Tyler Adams, RB Lepzig
Tyler Adams is a 21-year-old midfielder who currently plays for RB Leipzig. After leaving the New York Red Bulls in early 2019, Adams has looked very good in the Bundesliga. Adams will gel well with fellow midfielder Weston McKennie and a deadly duo could potentially be formed. Adams made it to the Champions League semi-finals last season before being beaten by French giants PSG. Fans will hope Adams can keep his form up and gain experience in the Champions League.
