Breaking: Jets Release CB Pierre Desir

On Tuesday, the New York Jets cut cornerback Pierre Desir after a disappointing season. In March, the team signed Desir in free agency.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network made light of the release.

Gang Green signed Pierre Desir with the expectation that he could improve their cornerback room as a starter. However, his season fell way short of expectations. Even worse, his effort on the field has come into question several times.

Desir was a standout for the Indianapolis Colts in 2018. He has taken major step backs in 2019 and 2020.

In 2020, Desir has allowed 10.3 yards per target plus a passer rating of 110.3. He has also allowed four touchdowns, a 76.5 completion percentage, and 13.5 yards per target. Quite often, Desir would be seen playing ten yards off the line of scrimmage.

The Jets will likely play youngsters Blessuan Austin and Bryce Hall at the cornerback position. It would be modest for the team to start playing their players who will be apart of the future.

The Jets continue to struggle at finding a replacement for Darrelle Revis.

Many people including myself thought this was a reasonable gamble. Obviously, Pierre Desir didn’t fit the part. Funny enough, Gregg Williams‘ defensive genius attracted Desir to New York.
