Breaking: Jets CB Brian Poole Out For Season

Having released Pierre Desir, the Jets announced today that Brian Poole will be out for the remainder of the season. He is going to receive shoulder surgery.

As a matter of fact, Poole arose as the best player in the secondary this year. In nine games, he recorded 44 tackles, one sack, two interceptions, pass defenses, and two tackles for loss.

In coverage, Poole allowed 6.6 yards per target, 10.3 yards per completion, a completion rating of 64.1 percent, and a passer rating of 61.6.  Pro Football Focus gave him a 77.1 grade.

Also, second-year cornerback Blessuan Austin missed practice today with a neck injury. His status is in doubt for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Yesterday, the New York Jets placed Brian Poole on the injured reserve list.

This could hurt Poole’s free-agent market. He is an unrestricted free agent this offseason after signing a one-year deal. It’s unlikely that Poole comes back to New York.

Poole’s replacement in the slot is Arthur Maulet.

Surrounding Austin’s injury, rookie Bryce Hall will get more reps on the outside. Lamar Jackson will start opposite Hall. Behind both of these corners are Corey Ballentine and Javelin Guidry.

The secondary is gonna be an interesting scenario for the Jets moving forward.
