Matt Peart, Two Other Giants Test Positive For COVID-19

The COVID-19 bug hits the New York Giants again. On Friday, offensive tackle Matt Peart, tight end Kaden Smith and newly acquired wide receiver Dante Pettis have tested positive for the illness.

Kicker Graham Gano also tested positive for the virus on Wednesday. Punter Riley Dixon and long snapper Casey Kreiter were close contacts to Gano. As a result, the Giants put them on the COVID-19 list.

If Dixon and Kreiter test positive, the Giants have backup long snapper, Carson Tinker, on the practice squad ready to go. The Giants already promoted punter and kicker Ryan Santoso to the active roster, in case Gano or Dixon is out for an extended period of time.

If Kaden Smith were to be out, the team can activate Rysen John or Nate Wieting for the next game. Veteran Chad Slade or rookie Kyle Murphy could replace Peart if Joe Judge opts to rotate offensive linemen. The Giants can also elevate wideouts Derrick Dillon, Alex Bachman, Binjimen Victor, or Corey Coleman if need be.

All the players who are on the COVID-19 list are currently questionable for next week’s game against Cincinnati.

Matt Peart, Graham Gano, Riley Dixon, and Kaden Smith have played major roles for the New York Giants this season.
