Xavier McKinney, Oshane Ximines Designated To Return From IR

There are more reasons to get excited for the New York Giants, as they designated rookie safety Xavier McKinney (broken foot) and pass-rusher Oshane Ximines (ankle) to return from injured reserve.

The Giants do have room to activate both as the following players went to the COVID-19 List.

  • Offensive Tackle Matt Peart (tested positive for the virus)
  • Wide Receiver Dante Pettis (tested positive for the virus)
  • Tight End Kaden Smith (tested positive for the virus)

Long snapper Casey Kreiter and punter Riley Dixon were close contacts to kicker Graham Gano, who contracted the virus three days after the victory against the Eagles. The Giants activated both off the COVID-19 List.

The Giants will be without Peart, Smith, and Pettis for the upcoming matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Xavier McKinney and Oshane Ximines will need to be activated before 4 pm on Saturday to play in Sunday’s matchup.

Many expect Oshane Ximines to make a big comeback for a pass-rush that is without Lorenzo Carter. Carter injured his Achilles in Week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys. Ximines, before going on IR, recorded five tackles, five pressures, three quarterback hits, and two hurries.

The same broad expectation stands for Xavier McKinney. Many hope defensive coordinator Patrick Graham will ease McKinney into his scheme to play safety and move Logan Ryan down to solve the CB2 issue. The Giants picked McKinney 36th overall in April’s draft out of Alabama.

The New York Giants also hope to get rookie linebacker Tae Crowder back sometime soon. Crowder started earning snaps next to Blake Martinez in Week 4 until he injured his hamstring in Week 6.
