The Giants made a few big roster moves this afternoon, activating Xavier Mckinney and Tae Crowder off the IR. The Giants also activated Graham Gano off the COVID list. All three players will be available in tomorrow’s showdown in a must-win game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The biggest news this week is that rookie safety Xavier Mckinney will be active this week. The Giants selected Mckinney with the 36th pick out of Alabama in this past spring’s draft. However, just prior to the start of the 2020 season, Mckinney suffered a fractured foot which knocked him out of action for the first 10 games. Mckinney returns at a crucial time for the Giants as a win could potentially put the Giants into first place in the NFC East. McKinney will line up at safety alongside Logan Ryan and Jabrill Peppers in tomorrow’s showdown.
The Giants also received the news that kicker Graham Gano has cleared COVID protocol and will be in action tomorrow against the Bengals. Gano, fresh off a three-year contract extension, was diagnosed with COVID-19 shortly after the Giants victory two weeks ago. There was a fear that he would miss this week’s game. But due to the BYE week, Gano will not miss any time. Gano has been nearly automatic for the G-Men this year. Making 21/22 field goals and all 16 of his extra-point attempts so far this season.
The Giants also received word this weekend that linebacker Tae Crowder will be returning from a hamstring injury he suffered on Oct. 20. Crowder is an important return for the Giants due to the injury Oshane Ximines suffered. Crowder, who was selected with the final pick in the 2020 draft, made headlines when he returned a fumble for a game-winning touchdown in week six’s showdown against Washington.
It was also announced today that Giants linebacker Oshane Ximines will miss the remainder of the season after reports that he will require rotator cuff surgery on his shoulder. Ximines has been on the sidelines since week four and will not make his return until the 2021 season.
