Tom Thibodeau Speaks To The Media As Camp Begins

With basketball games beginning soon, training camp opens for all teams today. Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau had his press conference to preview the upcoming season for the New York Knicks.

Answering the first question, Thibodeau clarified that a level of expectations should be set for the team. He said the challenge for the Knicks is how quickly can all of the players form chemistry.

The Knicks cut ties with their veteran free agents from last season as the team starts camp with a new group of players. The first official practice is on December 6. The Knicks’ first preseason game takes place on December 11.

Although he is a strongly defensive-minded guy, Thibodeau clarified the team will need to be strong on both sides of the ball.

New York’s head coach also said that the lack of practice before the preseason is a challenge each team will face.

When asked about free agency, Thibodeau clarified he did work with president Leon Rose on the signings. He also clarified he wanted his voice heard.

When asked about free agency, Tom Thibodeau remarked that the team had a well thought out plan and they stayed disciplined.

When asked about rookie Obi Toppin, Thibodeau remarked that he is ready as a young guy can be when it comes to offense. After that, he remarked that Toppin has to grow defensively and is versatile.

More importantly, Tom Thibodeau said roles will be earned and not given with this team. That’s how it should be.

The New York Knicks are focused on the development of their players. They didn’t make big splashes. But, they hired the right coach to set them up with the right mindset. This team will be fun to watch.
