What Does Austin Rivers Bring To The Knicks?

Austin Rivers is officially a member of the New York Knicks. New York finally has a point guard but Rivers won’t likely be a starter. Plus, he is more used to playing the two than the one.

Austin Rivers was one of the most highly touted point guards in the country in his draft class. He won just about every award during high school and college and is now a New York knick. Yes, Rivers is Doc Rivers‘ son. Rivers recently signed a three-year pact worth $10 million.

What Does Austin Rivers Bring To The Knicks?

Austin Rivers can provide something the Knicks didn’t have last year. That is a little more stability at the point guard position. He should be a perfect backup to Elfrid Payton.

With Rivers, you get scoring, and someone that can run the floor without worrying about developing a player. The Knicks get a solid no-nonsense player coming off of the bench and provide for your team. A role the Knicks haven’t filled in years. No one is sure if the Knicks are planning to make a move since they have a glut at that position.

Apparently, head coach Tom Thibodeau wants to play rotations of 11 combined players. This means there will be a battle for playing time. Training camp should be very competitive and the young guys are gonna have to step up to the plate.

I grade this signing a B. He has the experience and awareness to make it in New York he’s been able to play at every level and I don’t expect that to change over the next three years.
