Gary Sanchez, 28, was expected by some to be a non-tender candidate this offseason. He is coming off his worst season as a professional. He batted .147 while clubbing 10 home runs and driving in 24 runs.
Sanchez also continued to struggle defensively, leading the league in passed balls. Eventually, backup Kyle Higashioka saw an increased role down the stretch, also starting in the playoffs.
Yankees fans and the coaching staff alike hope Gary Sanchez can rebound in 2o21. Especially since the Yankees have been looking at catchers like James McCann and Yadier Molina in free agency. If Sanchez’s performance continues to decline, he’ll be out the door soon.
Per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Cessa is returning to the Yankees on a $1 million deal. Cessa appeared in 16 games for New York. He pitched to an earned run average of 3.32 while striking out 17 batters over 21.2 innings.
Luis Cessa is probably gonna continue to be apart of the Yankees bullpen as the long man.
The Yankees believe both players will be integral pieces for the team in 2021.
