Knicks to Open Season Versus Pacers In Indiana

Mark your calendars because the New York Knicks opening NBA game will take place on December 23rd. Following the announcement of the pre-season games, the first official game Knick game of the season will be in Indiana against the Pacers.

The Indiana Pacers are coming off a disappointing playoff run where they were swept by the Miami Heat. They finished the season with a record of 48-34 and seeded fifth in the East. The Pacers fired Nate McMillan after four seasons with the team. In all his seasons coaching the team, Indiana never made it past the first round. To replace him, the Pacers hired former Raptors assistant Nate Bjorkgren.

However, this is much more than what the Knicks can say, as they missed the playoffs entirely. The Knicks’ last game was March 11th, where they won it in Atlanta versus the Hawks. The Knicks did not retain interim head coach Mike Miller after finishing 21-45. Miller won 17 of the 21 games as Knicks head coach. David Fizdale won the other four. hey replaced him with former Bulls and Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Many players will be making their debut for the Knicks and fans will be excited to see how the team meshes. All eyes will be on Obi Toppin, who will make his NBA debut. Questions have also arisen as to who will start, as there are a variety of players, who’s spot on the squad is yet to be determined.

The Pacers seem to be a wildcard this season, and it will be a question as to whether or not they’ll even make the playoffs. Victor Oladipo looked to be a player who could be leaving Indiana before the season began. However, rumors have died down and he’ll surely be a core member of the squad.

Thibodeau will have many decisions to make regarding his roster. The question of whether Elfrid Payton or Austin Rivers will start is one that fans will have to wait for. Additionally, it seems as though the decision on who will start at power forward between Obi Toppin and Julius Randle hasn’t been made yet.

Sooner, the Knicks will head to Detroit to play the Pistons on December 11.
