Saturday Main Event: Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev

On Saturday starting at 1:00 pm EST, the main event, Anthony Joshua will defend his WBA, WBO, and IBF title versus Kubrat Pulev (on DAZN). The main event will take place approximately at 5:30 pm. The fight will take place at the SSE Arena in Wembley. Due to the pandemic, there will be 1,000 people in attendance.

Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua, 32, was a gold medalist in the 2012 Olympics. Joshua won his first title in 2016. Anthony Joshua, born in Watford, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, is 23-1 with 21 knockouts.

This will be Joshua’s first fight in 2020. He has been working out very carefully, sparring with boxers, that resemble his Saturday night’s opponent in height and style as much as he can. A mistake he made against Andy Ruiz Jr., he was sparring with fighters that didn’t resemble his opponent in Ruiz, and on June 1st, 2019 he lost by technical knockout.

After evaluating himself, he learned he needed to be in better shape, often feeling winded in that bout. On December 7th, he avenged his loss to Andy Ruiz Jr, and won by unanimous decision.

Kubrat Pulev

Bulgarian fighter Kubrat Pulev, 39, has a record of 28-1, with 14 knockouts. His only loss came on November 15, 2014, to Wladimir Klitschko. That fight ended in a knockout in the 5th round after being knocked down a few times in the earlier rounds. Pulev has won 8 straight fights since then. Klitschko was his only title fight as a challenger. Saturday’s night fight gives him another opportunity for a title.

Tale of the Tape

Anthony Joshua has the height and reach advantage in this bout.  Joshua is 6’6″ with an 82″ reach, while Kubrat Pulev stands 6’4″, with a 79.5-inch reach. They are both orthodox fighters.

High Stakes

Anthony Joshua has a lot riding on this fight.  Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder could be in his future with a win Saturday. Although he’s a heavy favorite, he will not look past Pulev and will take this fight very seriously. Joshua is -1000 (bet $1000 to win $100), to Pulev +600 (bet $100 to win $600)
