Breaking News: Jets Release K Sergio Castillo

After a horrific showing on Sunday, the Jets released former CFL kicker Sergio Castillo. Against the Seattle Seahawks, he missed three of four field-goal attempts.

The writing appeared on the wall after the team claimed former Jaguar Chase McLaughlin off of waivers on Monday. Head coach Adam Gase also mentioned Sam Ficken could return from injured reserve this week. Castillo has been filling in for Ficken.

On field goal tries, Castillo made six field goals out of seven attempts. The only miss came on a blocked kick against the Kansas City Chiefs. Ficken returned but reinjured his groin. Castillo only made two of six field goals in the past three games and went two of three on extra points.

McLaughlin is the Jets’ fourth kicker in the last two seasons and sixth in the last four seasons.

It seemed as though Castillo could be the Jets’ future kicker. But, that didn’t come to fruition.

General manager Joe Douglas has struggled to find an affirmative replacement for Jason Myers. The team has gone through five kickers in the last two years.

Names that have come and gone are Taylor Bertolet, Kaare Vedvik, Sam Ficken, and Chase McLaughlin. Also, add in Sergio Castillo.
