RJ Barrett is set to earn $8.6 million in 2021. Kevin Knox is set to earn $5.8 million.
On the other hand, the Knicks declined giving an extension to point guard Frank Ntilikina. As a result, he is going to be a restricted free agent. He is earning $6.1 million this season but his role on the team is not yet justified.
Mind you, the Knicks have not signed a rookie to a second contract since Charlie Ward back in 1994.
RJ Barrett is getting set for his sophomore season looking to open some eyes after a disappointing rookie year. He finished the season averaging 14.3 points, five rebounds, and 2.6 assists. He also shot 32 percent from downtown and 61.4 percent from the free-throw line.
Throughout the preseason, it seemed as though Barrett looked improved. His free throw shooting looked better. He developed a solid mid-range jump shot and became better on defense. Obviously, it’s just the preseason but everyone will know what Barrett has in store.
As for Knox, Knicks fans want to see major improvement. He showed flashes of brilliance in his rookie year and put up solid numbers. But a drop in minutes last season caused his confidence to dip.
