Nets Lose Overtime Heartbreaker To The Memphis Grizzlies

The Brooklyn Nets lose 116-111 in overtime to the Memphis Grizzlies at Barclays Center. The Nets did not have Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving for this game tonight for rest.

Before the game, the Nets received the unfortunate news of Spencer Dinwiddie partially tearing his ACL. Dinwiddie will be out for a while, it is currently unknown if he’ll return this season.

The Nets played a tough game against the Grizzlies without a bunch of starters. Even though they took a loss, the team played really well and was able to put up a fight. After losing both sides of the back-to-back there may be some panic starting in Brooklyn. Even in games that this team loses, they will make every game close and take it down to the wire. The Nets have been known for being in a bunch of close games through the past few seasons. The Nets won’t find themselves being blown out too often.

In the two games on the Nets back to back losses they have shown similar mistakes. This team has turned over the ball way too much and their defense hasn’t been great. Player including Taurean Prince miss way too many three-point shots. But, Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot has arisen a breakout player and has started the season strong. Luwawu-Cabarrot scored 21 points against Memphis, including 19 first-half points. The Nets are a really deep team, they have tons of guys on their bench that could undoubtedly be starting players.

Besides the fact that Memphis won, they had a tough game. Ja Morant left the game in the second quarter with a left ankle sprain, though there was no fracture. The Grizzlies’ star will be missing some time this season. Nevertheless, they had some players step up for them tonight who carried Memphis past the Nets. Kyle Anderson scored a team-high 28 points, Dillon Brooks scored 24 points, and Brandon Clarke scored 18 points. The fact of the matter is, the Grizzlies were able to play a good game even without Ja Morant.

Caris Levert was a huge player tonight for Brooklyn, recording 28 points, 11 assists, and four rebounds. Levert has been turning himself into the third star for the Brooklyn Nets. Joe Harris and Chris Chiozza also had great games for the Nets tonight.

Brooklyn wasn’t able to close off this game, simply they had multiple chances for game-winning shots and they missed them all. Levert had a shot at the end of regulation that missed. Joe Harris also had a near game-winning shot that missed. This team needs to hit clutch shots if they want to go anywhere. The past two nights, this team has had chances to win the game and they failed. This team is 2-2 right now, they could’ve been 4-0.

Importantly, Brooklyn went dry in the overtime period. They clearly had a chance to win this game and they just kept missing shots. Needless to say, Memphis was able to make shots in the overtime period. Previously the Nets made too many turnovers that led to buckets for Memphis. The Nets unquestionably need to play smarter in big situations.

Lastly, this isn’t time for the Nets to panic. But, this team clearly needs to close out games. This team played a great game without their best two players.
