Looks like the Jets will be running a two-man backfield on Sunday. Rookie La’Mical Perine has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. As a matter of fact, is the first Jets player to test positive all season. Contact tracing has begun, per head coach Adam Gase.
It looks as though the Jets will roll with Josh Adams and Ty Johnson in the backfield. The team is already down a runningback after Frank Gore bruised his lung in a victory against the Cleveland Browns.
The team could elevate Pete Guerriero from the practice squad for Sunday’s season finale against the New England Patriots.
It’s a bummer that Perine will not play Sunday as this test will prematurely end his rookie season.
In his rookie season, La’Mical Perine recorded 232 yards on 64 rushing attempts. He also scored two rushing touchdowns and averaged 3.6 yards per attempt.
The fourth-round draft pick recently came off of injured reserve.
Now with contact tracing, the Jets are hopeful that no one else tests positive.
Jets fans should possibly expect Ty Johnson and Josh Adams to have a field day. New England will be playing backups. Also, both combined to rush for 178 yards against the Las Vegas Raiders in a Week 13 loss.
