After an awful loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, the Brooklyn Nets are set to face the Washington Wizards at home this coming Sunday night for the first time this season. These two teams face each other in the preseason where the Nets came out victorious.
This is an anticipated matchup this year as Kevin Durant will face his former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate Russell Westbrook who is now wearing a red and white DC jersey. They didn’t have the chance to face each other in the preseason as Westbrook was sidelined.
Washington Wizards Preview
Washington Wizards’ season start was not as good as you think before the opening night. They didn’t win at least a single game in their first five games. Surprisingly, they managed to beat Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves even without their superstar point guard Russell Westbrook.
Coming out from a victory last Friday, the Washington Wizards are ready to take their second win but now against the Brooklyn Nets. This is an exciting matchup as many fans will be able to watch a possible Eastern Conference rival.
Notable Player: Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook is clearly the key player here. His passing ability will be shown at full force as their opponent is a contending team. Rebounding can also be a factor as Westbrook is known for that. He can take advantage of it to gain some extra possessions.
Everyone knows that Westbrook is not a good three-pointer. He needs to grove his feet and forgets for a while about his outside shooting. He’s just only hitting 26.7 percent of those this season. He can do better on his shot selection though.
Washington Wizards Projected Starting Lineup:
Brooklyn Nets Preview
The Brooklyn Nets now have a 3-3 record and are tied at the sixth spot with three other teams — the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, and New York Knicks. In their last game, they failed to beat the Atlanta Hawks. Their horrible defense was largely a factor of their loss. Their shooting was terrible as they drop only seven-of-37 from the three-point territory.
The Nets need to overcome their shooting slump, especially Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. These two stars were throwing bricks versus Hawks dropping only four-of-18 from behind the arc. When talking about their defense, they are not doing well too. They allowing their opponents to score an average of 111.8 points per game since the opening night.
Notable Player: Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving needs to step up in this game as his team needs additional firepower to get the job done. As they lost a facilitator due to Spencer Dinwiddie‘s season-ending injury, his playmaking load increases. Setting up for his teammates may boost their offense against a not-so-great defensive team.
Uncle Drew is having another great season. He’s averaging 26.2 points while dishing out 5.6 assists per game early this season. Nets will reach greater heights if he’ll maintain this level of performance until the end of the season.
Brooklyn Neys Projected Starting Lineup:
Nets vs Wizards Match Prediction
Brooklyn Nets will be the eventual winner of this match. They will overpower the young frontcourt of the Wizards. They will surprise the opposing team with their three-point barrage and they’ll make up for the shooting slump that they showed against the Hawks.
