Jets To Fly In 49ers DC Robert Saleh For Second Interview

The second round of head coaching interviews has begun. 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is flying in to meet with the Jets in-person for a second interview, per Ian Rapoport.

To note, Rapoport also mentioned that other candidates will be also getting second interviews.

As a matter of fact, Saleh is the first candidate to receive a second interview. He completed his first interview with the Jets on January 8. Saleh also interviewed with the Falcons, Lions, Jaguars, and Chargers.

Robert Saleh has been the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator since Kyle Shanahan took over as head coach in 2017.

Ever since becoming the defensive coordinator, Saleh has been nothing short of spectacular. His defenses have ranked 24th, 13th, second, and fifth across the NFL, in order of seasons.

2019 was his best season as a defensive coordinator. Not only did the defense rank second in the NFL, but the Niners defense also ranked 6th in turnovers, fourth in sacks, and first in passing defense. That was the first time the 49ers ranked top 10 in scoring and total defense since 2003.

It’s been said that Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka would likely be Robert Saleh’s offensive coordinator. Saleh could also bring along 49ers passing game coordinator Mike LaFleur and run game coordinator Mike McDaniel.
