The New York Islanders undoubtedly have a very exciting week ahead of them. As training camp finishes up, all eyes are set towards Thursday Night. Both Games will take place at Madison Square Garden and will both start at 7:00 PM EST.

1/14 Islanders @ Rangers Opening Night

Opening Night, the one night every season where both teams are guaranteed to start the night undefeated. Without a doubt, opening night is one of the more special nights during a hockey season. Besides the fact that it’s an unusual month for NHL opening night and there’ll be no fans, it’ll for sure be a special night this year. When the puck drops on Thursday at Madison Square Garden, it’ll seem that hockey is officially back.

Islanders vs Rangers is unquestionably one of the best rivalries in the sport. There’s no word on who will be the Rangers starting goalie, but the Islanders will start Semyon Varlamov. Mathew Barzal will play his first game with his brand new contract. Alexis Lafrenière will make his NHL debut. There’s no telling how this game will go, but the Rangers did win the regular-season series last year 3-1. These teams did face off in the only exhibition game for the NHL bubble, where the Islanders won 2-1. Even though, there’s no telling as to how these teams will perform this season. Thursday night will be the first glimmer of both of the two squads in the 2021 NHL season.

1/16  Islanders @ Rangers

Round 2… The Islanders and Rangers will have a sequel on Saturday night. There is a possibility that Saturday night may be the long-anticipated NHL debut of Ilya Sorokin. But, there is no guarantee that Sorokin will play. The team who ends up on the losing side on Thursday will be looking for some revenge. These two teams will match up in the East division 8 times throughout this season. There will for sure be some bad blood between the team from Long Island and the team from Manhattan. These games will showcase how much they don’t like each other. Barry Trotz and David Quinn will have a challenging task this season because of the number of times these teams play each other. Time will tell who will be the victor and who will be the loser. Whenever these teams play it’ll always be a toss-up.
