After a search consisting of ten different applicants, Gang Green has found their man. Robert Saleh, the former defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, is the new head coach of the New York Jets. The deal is for five years and he will bring over Mike LaFleur to be his offensive coordinator.
Robert Saleh Resume
Robert Saleh is the perfect hire for the Jets. His energy, passion and pull back guy are exactly what the Jets need. Saleh has established San Francisco as one of the toughest defenses in the NFL. Before being the defensive coordinator, Saleh spent three years as the quality control coach for the Seattle Seahawks. He was involved with The Legion of Boom and won Super Bowl XLVII.
After Seattle, Saleh spent three years as the Jaguars linebacker coach. In 2019, the 49ers ranked second in total defense, first in pass defense, and forced 27 turnovers. In 2020, Saleh and his 49ers defense ranked, fifth in total defense, seventh in rushing, and fourth in passing. Saleh’s presence will greatly benefit this young defense.
Robert Saleh will bring Mike LaFleur over from San Francisco, and LaFleur will become the Jets’ new offensive coordinator. LaFleur has been the passing game coordinator since 2019. LaFleur, the younger brother of Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, also brings a young presence and energy.
In 2019, the 49ers passed for 248.6 yards per game. In 2020, with Nick Mullens mostly at the helm, the 49ers passed for 252.1 yards per game, which ranked twelfth in the NFL. LaFleur comes from the same offensive school as Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, and obviously his brother Matt. Those three have proven to be successful early on when promoted, I don’t expect LaFleur to be any different.
Robert Saleh, head coach of the New York Jets. Rejoice Jets fans, better days are ahead.
