Dave Gettleman has not been the best general manager in the league, but the New York Giants must see something in him because he is coming back for another year. He has made some key signing like Blake Martinez and James Bradberry and drafted Saquon Barkley two years ago. On the other hand, he’s paying some guys a ton of money and if the Giants ever want to get to the Playoffs, budget cuts will be necessary. If Gettleman wants to have a winning season these are the top five free agents the New York Giants should pursue this off-season.
Clowney is a threat to all NFL quarterbacks. The Giants have been rumored numerous times over the past years that Clowney will sign with them, but here we are, no Jadeveon Clowney. I do not think that he will sign with the Giants because we are most likely going to re-sign Leonard Williams and Dalvin Tomlinson. If we sign just Williams we can go for a lower-end guy to replace Tomlinson but if we do not sign Williams, Clowney is our guy. Clowney played a limited amount of games this year but still forced fumbles and was a threat on the defensive line. I don’t see the Giants signing this guy unless Leonard Williams does not return next year, but still a very valuable pickup this off-season.
Moreau will enter his 4th NFL season this year. He has really only had 2 good seasons so far, but from what I have seen Moreau has a very bright future. They have a Pro Bowl cornerback in James Bradberry already, and it wouldn’t hurt to sign a young bright star-like Fabian Moreau. As I watch games on and on again I see too many receivers open and another corner like Moreau could help our defense out. Moreau had 3 INT’s this year along with 44 combined tackles. The Giants would be lucky to sign someone like Moreau this off-season, and yes, there is a very big possibility that this could be our key signing.
With the most likely departure of edge rusher Kyler Fackrell, the Giants should try and buy an edge rusher. Melvin Ingram, who has been the Chargers’ number 1 edge rusher, is a free agent this upcoming off-season. The 9-year vet and 3-time pro bowler could be the guy Gettleman and the Giants are looking for. He has 49 career sacks, 3 interceptions, and almost 400 career tackles. Ingram is a threat to all quarterbacks and when the blitz drops off, he is a treat in the middle of the field. If the Giants sign this guy, they are headed in the right direction, towards a winning season.
2. Joe Thuney or Lane Taylor
We can all say that the Giants have an ineffective O-Line. The O-Line has been one of the weakest points on our team for many years and now, we are starting to build and see a better O-Line. Drafting Andrew Thomas 4th overall wasn’t the smartest move when better players like Jedrick Wills or Mekhi Becton went within the next couple of picks.
The addition of Pro Bowlers like Lane Taylor or Joe Thuney would make our offense even better, especially if we are going to have Danny Jones back next year. Both Guys are brick walls and are both centerpieces for their guys upfront. Some folks might agree that we need a new TE or a new Linebacker, but to improve even more after almost making the playoffs, Joe Thuney or Lane Taylor are the perfect guys to help not only Jones out but to help this team out and improve in a forward direction.
Here it is, #1 Kenny Golladay. Like I have said before, Golden Tate is overpaid and isn’t even our best wideout. In 2021 Golden Tate needs to go. We have a very young and strong receiving core of Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton, and adding and a star-like Golladay will lead this team to victory. I believe that Golladay is the guy for the team. The pro-bowler already has 3,000 yards on 183 receptions. I would love to see Golladay wearing a blue jersey this year. He will automatically become our #1 receiver and Danny’s #1 target downfield. Kenny was limited to games this year, but as all football fans know, he is the guy that we have need.
The simple fact is that we are close. A playoff spot is at our fingertips. Signing guys like Golladay and Ingram can help out this team tremendously. Changes will and need to be made, and we also have a draft full of great players like Kwity Paye, Rashawn Slater, and Gregory Rousseau. The Giants WILL make the playoffs over the next couple of years, and we could even see an NFC championship game down the stretch.
