The Brooklyn Nets may have had their worst game of the season tonight against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Are the Nets starting to regret trading Taurean Prince and Jarrett Allen to the Cavaliers in the James Harden trade? Both Allen and Prince have looked like Shaquille O’Neal and Stephen Curry in their first two games as Cavaliers against the Nets. It was evident tonight that last week the Nets weakened their weakness to make their strength stronger. The offense hasn’t been the problem for this nets team. But tonight showed that the Nets have a lot of work to get to a Larry O’Brien trophy.
The Nets had trouble with defense and rebounding.
More than ever before, it almost seems like defense isn’t as important as it once was in the NBA. But, to be successful, you need to have at least a decent enough defense. An offense can’t do everything. There needs to be some variation in how a team plays basketball. Yes, the Nets have three superstars and didn’t have Kevin Durant tonight. It seemed as though tonight the nets made less than ten defensive stops in the entire 48 minutes of play. Improvements on defense are imperative. Nobody should give up that many points in two games against the Cavaliers. Rebounding wasn’t much better. Though defensive rebounds are what usually happens when a shot is missed, the Nets struggled with that. It is pretty hard to rebound when a team trades away their best rebounder. If it wasn’t obvious enough, massive improvements are needed.
Do The Nets take too many three-pointers?
Even though the NBA has been revolving around the three-pointer the past few years, is too many not good? The Nets took 43 three-pointers today and only made 14 of them. Brooklyn has a few elite three-point shooters, but there could be a downfall for taking too many three-pointers. The Nets have James Harden, and Mike D’Antoni is one of their assistant coaches. In the past four years, the Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets have seemingly attempted some of the most three-pointers in the NBA. It is quite evident that three-pointers aren’t the easiest shots to make. Consistency when making shots worthless may be more efficient than inconsistency when making shots worth more. The goal is to score more points than the other team, so everything has to be done to score as much as possible.
It is going to take some time to get on the same page.
It has only been one game that all three of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving have played on the floor together. It’s not time to panic yet. This team went through an extremely significant change during a season. Undoubtedly, the Brooklyn Nets aren’t where they’d like to be at this time. It isn’t preferable to lose to seemingly worse teams. Last year’s Los Angeles Clippers didn’t have Kawhi Leonard and Paul George play enough together. It was evident they didn’t have enough chemistry when games mattered more. The Nets can’t let that happen. The three superstars on Brooklyn need to play together to build more chemistry. There’s already a head start, Kevin Durant and James Harden played with each other in Oklahoma City if the three superstars get on the same page, Brooklyn where they want to be.
The Nets play the Miami Heat Tomorrow night at Barclays Center. Brooklyn needs to do everything in its power to win that game. It’s time for this team to step it up!
