The Brooklyn Nets finally got one of their superstars back today, as Kevin Durant returned after missing a week with a thigh contusion. Durant of course has missed most of the season due to multiple injuries, so the Nets had a game-plan to limit his minutes to under 30. Durant came off the bench for the third time this season, entering the game during the second quarter. Even with all the time missed by KD this season, it still hasn’t effected his play at all…
Dominant Game From KD & Kyrie
What can we say about these two anymore. They are both simply brilliant.
After a rough shooting game in his last game, Kyrie Irving went off for 34 points on only 19 shots in this game. In 28 minutes of game time, Kevin Durant dropped a light 33 points on 57% shooting. It’s just amazing to watch these two play basketball.
Steve Nash has stated that they plan on keeping Durant on a minutes restriction for the next few games, slowly ramping up his minutes. It is still unclear whether Durant will be coming off the bench next game.
Nets Getting Ready for Playoffs
At this point in this season, all the Nets are trying to do is stay healthy. Other than KD, Tyler Johnson also returned to game action today after missing multiple weeks with knee soreness. Even with how well the Nets have played this season, it’s still been a frustrating year.
The Nets played a Phoenix Suns team that is currently second in the West with the fifth best defense in the league. Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton were all available for them today. The Nets still put up 128 points on them. These games as Nets fans can only make us wonder how good this team actually is.
James Harden is still a few weeks away according to Nash, and he may not even be ready until the playoffs. Obviously not ideal because you want this trio to form some chemistry, but you can only control what you can. That includes a push for first place.
Continuing to Fight for First Place
With Brooklyn winning this game 128-119, they are currently 41-20 on the season. They are now 1.5 games in front of the 76ers for first place in the East. Staying in first place is vital for this team going forward.
First place in the East would give the Nets the easiest pathway to the Eastern Conference Finals. If the season were to end today, Brooklyn would face the Hornets in the first round, then either the Knicks or Hawks in the second round. With a team that hasn’t formed much chemistry with their big three, finishing in first would be quite the accomplishment. Let’s hope the Nets can keep it going.
Upcoming Game for the Nets
Your first place Brooklyn Nets will have tomorrow off before heading back to Tampa, Florida to face the Raptors. This will be the Nets second game against the Raptors in about a week. The game will start at 7:30 PM EST and of course will be broadcasted on YES Network. As of right now, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are expected to play.
