The Devils were finally able to stop the 10 game losing streak with a 6-4 win against the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night. Can the Devils get a spark with prospect Kevin Bahl making his NHL debut. This game is the the third of four straight games against the Flyers. The Devils look to win two in a row.
This was very strong period for the Devils. For the most part of the Period they were flying in the Flyers end of the rink. The Devils were making crisp passes forcing the Flyers defense to chase for the puck. The Devils were able to capitalize on their first power play of the game. Thanks to Yegor Sharangovich who sniped a puck from the right face-off circle in between the hashmarks. That shot handcuffed goaltender Alex Lyon as the puck somehow squeezed through the glove side of the goal. Shrangovich was not done. Damon Severson made an excellent pass to Shrangovich who was cutting straight towards the goal. This made the score 2-0 Devils. This goal also came on the Power play. The Period ended with the Devils leading the Flyers 2-0.
The second period was a mixed bag of the Devils. While the Devils maintained another power play they turned the puck over and Scott Laughton scored on a break-way. That can not happen, this goal cut into the Devils 2-1 lead. Though the Devils were able to get that two goal lead back thanks Jesper Boqvist. Nicholas Merkley set Boqvist up for a one timer slap shot. Unfortunately Sean Couturier scored to make the game 3-2 Devils. The period ended poorly as the Devils had a too many men on the ice. This penalty is always unacceptable because this showed that the team was not focused. Now the Devils have to finish the penalty in the third period to hold onto their lead.
Luckily the Devils began the period with killing the Flyer’s power play. That is important because the too many men on the ice penalty did not hurt them. This helped the Devils momentum. The Devils defense stayed stingy making it difficult for the Flyers to enter their zone unlike the second period. Pavel Zacha scored with a beautiful entry into the Flyers end. The Devils were able to catch the Flyers sleeping. Alain Vingneault made a risky decision to pull goaltender Alex Lyon with about four minutes left in the period. Devils took advantage as Jesper Bratt buried the empty netter. This made the score 5-2. The Flyers scored a late power play goal but that was not enough to comeback. The Devils went on to win 5-3. This is the Devils second straight victory. Hopefully the Devils can continue on Saturday again against the Flyers.
