For the first time since the 2018-19 season, the Rangers will play a full 82 game season. As playoff hopefuls, the Rangers will play in plenty of much-watch games this year. Here are a few that fans just can’t miss.
October 13th @ Capitals
The most anticipated game in likely the entire league takes place on October 13th at Capital One Arena. It’s no surprise to anyone that this game makes this list. Everyone can remember the last two times these teams faced off and the absolute brawl that took place. The Tom Wilson incident remains at the front of Rangers fans’ minds when they think of this game. His dirty punch to the back of Pavel Buchnevich‘s head and his gutless move to slam Artemi Panarin‘s head into the ice made this rivalry even nastier. The following game started with a line brawl and 6 fights in the first five minutes. The Wilson incident was the tipping point for James Dolan, who fired John Davidson and Jeff Gorton shortly after the incident. David Quinn was fired after the season.
This incident led the Rangers to search for “grit” all offseason, as Dolan thought that was what they were missing. After acquiring Sammy Blais, Jarred Tinordi, and Ryan Reaves himself, the Rangers will look to even the score in their first regular-season game.
October 31st @ Kraken
The Rangers’ first-ever game against the newly-created Seattle Kraken takes place on Halloween at Climate Pledge Arena. There isn’t any rivalry here, but the first game the Rangers will ever play against the Kraken is definitely cool. Unfortunately, this game takes place in Seattle, so east coast watchers will have to stay up late. In any case, it should definitely be an exciting game to watch to end a Halloween night.
November 24th @ Islanders
While yes, this is another away game, this is a huge game for the Rangers. On the 24th, the Rangers play the Islanders for the first time in their new arena. The first of 4 games against their fierce rival takes place in UBS Arena, the new home of the Islanders. This will be the Rangers’ first time in that arena, and they’ll need to silence the home crowd early.
March 4th vs Devils
The Rangers will play the Devils on March 4th in MSG. This game will have major playoff implications for the Rangers, and they’ll need to secure an easy divisional win. This game will be a great rivalry game with a lot on the line standing-wise, so it’s a must-watch if you want exciting hockey.
March 25th vs Penguins
Much like the Devils game, this will be an intense game with serious implications. The Penguins, who will most likely be playoff contenders, will look to get another win in their push while the Rangers do the same. A big home rivalry game for the Rangers would be a huge win, and hopefully, the Rangers can come out on top.
April 21st @ Islanders
One of the final games in the season for the Rangers is an intense one at UBS stadium. They play their rivals close to the end of the year in a must-see. Expect a lot of action in this game, from fights to goals to amazing saves, this game should have it all.
